What is RSS and how do I use It?

You can now get the latest information about Eaton's Powerware UPSs sent directly to your computer, cell phone or PDA using RSS - or Really Simple Syndication.

Subscribing using Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer 7.0 and other RSS-capable browsers

The easiest way to subscribe and read RSS feeds is to use RSS-enabled browser such as Internet Explorer 7.0, Firefox or Safari 2.0.

• Firefox: add the URL of the feed you're interested in to the browser's "live bookmarks" folder. More instructions are available at: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks
• Safari: instructions for using RSS feeds can be found at http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/safari/
• Internet Explorer 7.0: see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/iefaq.mspx for instructions on subscribing to RSS feeds

Internet Explorer 6.0 and Earlier

The 6.0 and earlier versions of Internet Explorer do not support direct subscription to RSS feeds. You will need to use a separate RSS "reader" or "aggregator" to subscribe in this situation.

• All platforms: Google Reader or Bloglines
• Windows: Free RSS Readers for Windows users include RssReader and FeedReader.
• Mac: try Newsfire or PulpFiction

For all external RSS feed readers, you will need to copy and paste the URL of the RSS feed into the subscription field. Please see the example below:

1. Click the 'Subscribe today' link from this page:
   
2. You will see the raw XML of the RSS feed on your screen. Do not panic.
   
3. Select the URL in the 'Address' bar of your browser and copy that information
   
4. Paste the copied URL into the subscription field on your RSS reader. The example below is from Google Reader.
   
5. You will now be able to use your RSS reader to view the information in our feed as it is updated!
