Eaton Corporation Introduces the Powerware Enclosure Power Distribution Unit

September 3, 2007, Helsinki, Finland… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced the availability of the Powerware Enclosure Power Distribution Unit (ePDU), a broad portfolio of rack-based power distribution solutions for data centres across all power densities and technologies. The new Powerware ePDUs complement the company’s UPS systems, distributing power in high-density rack environments, or anywhere conditioned power must be distributed to multiple pieces of equipment.

“Two trends are emerging for data centre devices,“ explains Richard Vass, Sales Director, Eaton. “They are growing smaller, yet requiring high-density power. On the other hand, lower-density equipment demands higher power. The new Powerware Enclosure Power Distribution Units provide the solution for both needs.”

From single to dual chassis, four technology options, the broadest power range and the ability to manufacture ePDUs with custom arrangement of outlets for every geographic region, Powerware ePDUs are distinguished for their quality, dependability and versatility.

Vass adds, “The changing parameters within this market segment has created the need to monitor and control power usage. And whilst the ability and need to monitor power consumption at a macro level is not new news, the need to monitor power consumption and hence thermal impact of individual items of equipment has given rise to the need for outlet level power monitoring.”

The Powerware ePDU family includes models with a variety of power inputs and outputs to fit most power requirements. And for extra flexibility the range also includes four technology options: Managed, Monitored, Metered, and Basic ePDUs. The Managed ePDU offers individual outlet monitoring of power. With the monitored option combining remote and local monitoring in one package. Powerware’s metered option offers local ammeter display that enhances ease of use and deployment and the basic unit offers rugged construction and flexible mounting options. A Vertical Zero U or horizontal 1U/2U configurations are also available.
