Powerware ABM Technology

ABM graph Most UPS batteries on the market today are constantly “trickle-charged,” a process that degrades the battery’s internal chemical composition and reduces potential battery service life by as much as 50 percent.

Data based upon tests performed by an independent battery manufacturer.

In contrast, Powerware ABM technology uses sophisticated sensing circuitry and an innovative three-stage charging technique that extends the useful service life of UPS batteries while optimizing the battery recharge time.

Powerware ABM technology also provides up to 60 days’ notice of the end of useful battery service life to allow you ample time to hot swap batteries without ever having to shut down connected equipment.

ABM technology is available on the Powerware 5115, 5125, 9120, 9125, 9155, 9170+, 9355 and 9390 UPS models.

DC Expert Battery Monitoring

Monitoring battery life is one of the most challenging aspects of maintaining UPS and battery system reliability. Available on the Powerware 9315 UPS, DC Expert is a built-in battery monitoring system that helps meet this challenge.

The DC Expert system provides accurate information on backup time and battery health, allowing you to avoid losses due to unexpected battery failure. While competitive battery monitoring systems usually estimate battery backup time with a ±20 percent fluctuation in accuracy, DC Expert data is accurate to within ±3 percent. These backup times are prominently displayed on a large LCD panel located on the front of the UPS.

Variable Battery Bus

Available on the Powerware 9390 UPS, a variable battery buss accommodates 384V to 480V configurations, so the battery capacity can be matched to a customer’s exact runtime requirement—either a specific runtime, extension to an existing battery runtime, or legacy battery installations.

Remote Monitoring Services

Imagine the security of having trained service technicians standing by around-the-clock to attend to the needs of your Powerware UPS and battery system. Remote monitoring services from Eaton provide both you and Powerware technicians with access to real-time alarms, UPS and battery health data, and the ability to diagnose problems remotely.

Remote monitoring for your Powerware UPS and battery system can be provided through either a Web/SNMP card and email connection, or a traditional modem and dial-up phone line. Powerware remote monitoring features include:

  • Monthly UPS Monitoring Summary Reports sent to as many as four (4) site contacts via email
  • Monitoring of 100+ UPS and battery operating data points and trends (via 35+ alarms)
  • Summary of top 10 parameters, battery events, availability percentage and comparative status against recommended specification (eReport Remote Monitoring)
  • Notification of significant alarms, diagnostics and technician dispatch as needed, resolution and recommendations (eNotify Remote Monitoring)
  • Summary of alarms and heartbeat status (Advance Response Service)

Remote monitoring services are available for the Powerware 9315, and 9390 UPS models.

Powerware CellWatch

A state-of-the-art battery monitoring system designed specifically for large (three-phase) UPSs, Powerware CellWatch utilizes the latest fiber optic technology to provide rapid, noise-free transmission of information. The modular system continuously monitors the entire battery system, including string and cell level voltage, internal resistance, current and temperature throughout the charge, discharge, and float periods.

Powerware CellWatch provides immediate warnings of deterioration and imminent failure of batteries, and identifies any individual battery that exhibits problems—providing a proactive approach to ensuring UPS reliability. In addition, this monitoring system allows battery replacement to be based on the battery’s condition, not simply on how long it’s been in use, helping avoid premature and unnecessary replacement.

Powerware CellWatch includes a one-year corrective maintenance coverage on parts and labor and a 24-hour hotline for technical support. An optional comprehensive service plan is also available.
